The maze is the game: tower defence layout basics
New tower defence players tend to obsess over which tower is strongest. Veterans obsess over geometry. The real skill in most of these games is forcing enemies to walk the longest possible path past your guns, and that starts with how you shape the route.
On open maps, the classic move is the S-maze: build walls that zigzag the path back and forth through a small area, so one cluster of towers hits the same enemies many times. It feels almost like cheating the first time it works.
Range matters more than raw damage early on. A tower that can reach three lanes of your maze is worth more than a stronger one that only covers a corner. Plan your maze first, then slot towers into the overlap zones.
Finally, leave gaps. You'll want to upgrade and reposition as waves get harder, and a maze packed too tight gives you no room to adapt. Build for the fight two waves ahead, not the one in front of you.
